Independence Day, What’cha Cooking? (Recipe Inside)

American Flag

I am a lover of freedom! I won’t hide it because I am free to not hide it…

I celebrate the independence of my country because is that not what we all want? Independence from the powers that try to rule our lives?

Well, Jesus set me free from those dark powers so I celebrate independence in all its forms. I respect the spirit that breaks chains. And I am free to do what I love!

Like cook! Chilli is an American staple. I had never made it before until yesterday. Well, it was delicious and I am pretty sad there aren’t any leftovers. But that means I have to cook up another Americana dish today, but I need some inspiration?

The Recipe

I am sharing a rough ingredient list because cooking is so particular, we should all season to our own tastes. Plus, I never follow recipes to the T (unless I’m baking).

Meat + Veggie Chili

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 16 oz. beef stock
  • 1 can of black beans
  • 1 Spanish onion
  • 2 green onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 medium sized bell pepper (I used half green pepper, half red pepper)
  • 1 small zucchini
  • 1 small yellow squash

Herbs + Seasonings

  • Cumin
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • 2 TBSP arrowroot powder (for thickening)

  • Cook stove top in a pot over medium heat for at least an hour!

I am a Hopemade Woman because I hope for the promise of life through Jesus. This hope is what drives me! I am a creative romantic with big dreams of successfully merging the homemaker life, the blogger life and a spicy dash of the entrepreneurial life. What can I say? I like to juggle and that is okay--I am learning at all times, as you'll soon find out. I blog to share this hope with other women and mommas.
